Captain's word

Everyone should allow themselves and their loved ones a genuine experience on board a steamer, a breath of past decades, even centuries. This is the nostalgy of bygone days, the luxury of modern times. Peace and quiet. As in the good old days.

The silence is like music to your ears. The scents tickle your nostrils. This makes you rich: finally you have some time to yourself.

Eventually, nothing will keep you from signing up on our dreamlike cruise in the world's most beautiful archipelago. As you listen to the steady humming of the steam engine, you feel completely devoted and ready to condemn modern progress, as does the master of the ship. This experience is not hazardous to your health. On the contrary. The kind of light and harmless dizziness you are experiencing during your journey into the past is a healthy change of routines to anyone. Even the author Aleksis Kivi acknowledged this more than a century ago. The steamer cruise is a historical event and a contribution to the culture. At least one Finnish sea-going steamer has been assigned a worthy task.

Ships have sailed the routes of this archipelago for more than a century. There were several decades for steamship traffic but a long time has passed  now since the predecessor of the Ukkopekka, s/s Wellamo, blew its steam whistle by the banks of the river Aura or the shores of the islands in the Airisto. Now we have returned, giving you the stillness of the steamer, the solemnity of cruising. Bringing back the bygones - even in the melancholy tunes of the accordion. The steamship cruise - how close it was that it remained an unknown experience for many of us. The costs of modern times are a constant threat to the old steamer. Join us, bring your friends - don't make the steamers disappear forever. I wish you a pleasant cruise on the last romantic invention in the world: the steamship.

Best regards,
